Executive Director
General Responsibilities
- Lead High Point Discovered (HPD) in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as
defined by the Board of Directors. - Effectively communicate with the Board providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information
necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. - Attend all Board meetings and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project
timelines, and project and organizational progress. - Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex–officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for rolling Board seats.
FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE AND VIABILITY: Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial long–term health of the organization.
- Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support HPD’s mission.
- Responsible for the fiscal integrity of HPD, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual
budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. - Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget,
ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. - Plan, actively manage, and oversee the operations, programs, and fundraising while ensuring financial
sustainability. - Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
ORGANIZATION MISSION AND STRATEGY: Works with board and staff to oversee the day–to–day operations to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.
- Responsible for strategic planning in conjunction with the Board of Directors to ensure that HPD can successfully carry out current and future programs to fulfill its Mission into the future.
- Assure that HPD makes consistent and timely progress in achieving mission and target programmatic impact.
- Create and maintain strong relationships with nonprofit organizations and community leaders throughout the region in order to understand and articulate evolving needs in the city of High Point by working closely with the Board of Directors, HPD team, and other High Point professional, civic, and private organizations.
- Effectively represent HPD and promote a positive organizational image to ensure adequate community
representation. - Actively engage and energize HPD volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering
organizations, and funders.
ORGANIZATION OPERATIONS: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
- Responsible for the hiring and retention of a competent, qualified team.
- Provide thoughtful leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering to the team in a manner that supports and guides HPD’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
- Foster a collaborative working environment, encourage professional development, and champion accountability amongst team, Board of Directors, and volunteers.
- Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
- Supervise, collaborate with organization staff.
- Strategic planning and implementation.
- Planning and operation of annual budget.
- Serve as HPD’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general
public. - Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance HPD’s Mission.
- Engage in fundraising and developing other revenues.
- Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
- Oversee donor CRM administration to run regular reports and track donor relationships.
- Oversee organization Board and committee meetings.
- Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day–to–day operation of the nonprofit including hiring, team reviews and compensation recommendations.
- Review and approve contracts for services.
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The ED will be thoroughly committed to HPD’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Transparent and high integrity leadership.
- Five or more years of non-profit management experience.
- Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
- High-level strategic thinking and planning.
- Ability to envision and convey HPD’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
- Ability to effectively communicate HPD’s mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
- A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
- Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding
community. - Preferred experience implementing and administrating Blackbaud eTapestry (or comparable non–profit
donor CRM). - Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including
funders, partner agencies, and volunteers. - Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and
reporting. - Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong public speaking ability.
- Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
