College Town; Shared Community

High Point University flags align the streets in front of Wanek Center.

There’s purple running through our veins and Panther pride in the air, so it’s safe to say High Point is officially a college town! What comes with being a college town? All the perks of college – from a growing community to brilliant faculty, trendy spaces, cultural events and team camaraderie. It’s not just our team here at High Point Discovered that thinks it’s a pleasure to be a college town. All around our city we hear about the relationships forming between HPU students, families, and our city’s business owners.

“We absolutely love our HPU students and really appreciate their patronage throughout the school year,” says Suzanne Kulwicki with Carolina’s Diner on Eastchester Drive. “We especially enjoy seeing them with their family and friends on Family Weekend because it gives us a chance to meet new family members, visit with returning families and feel as though we are also a small part of their family here in High Point.”

There’s no doubt that HPU makes High Point better, so we’re sharing the things that turn this college town into our shared community.

Spots that become Your Space

More than 150 businesses accept the High Point Passport as a form of payment. The HPU Passports are preloaded cards for university students to use around town, meaning they get to frequent some of our amazing eateries, shops, and cafes, and these businesses get to serve our students. Students, find out here where you can use your HPU Passport, and start finding the High Point hang outs you want to frequent on a regular basis.

Decor that becomes Home

Look around town and you’ll find pops of purple dotting the skyline. We feel like the bright purple “We Heart HPU” umbrellas and signs around town make HPU students and families feel welcome and at home. So HPU students, make sure you tell your waiter or server that you are HPU proud, just like them.

Visitors that become Family

“HPU Fall Family Weekend is just like Thanksgiving,” says Rouben Keshguerian, owner of East Coast Wings in High Point. “You welcome family you haven’t seen in a while. HPU is our extended family.” With more than 100,000 guests and 5,500 students coming to High Point for HPU-related events annually, we really believe our community is better because of your presence.

We have to agree with Rouben – HPU is our extended family here in High Point. We hope you feel the same, and that residents and students alike are able to bond over shared spaces, traditions, and family ties. From all of us at HPD, thanks to our students and community for making this college town a little more fun.
