Creative Gifting

It’s not the gift but the thought that counts.

A cliché we’ve all heard before. But these ubiquitous sentiments are very often rooted in truth. Point in fact, giving the most expensive gift does not necessarily mean you are giving the best gift. We all know how exciting and daunting the task of gift shopping for our loved ones can be. The task challenges us to think of something each person will appreciate.  The most loved gifts are often a combination of a little creativity and quality time spent thinking of each of your friends and family. Easier said than done, right? Well, this year it doesn’t have to be. We have compiled some creative gifts to show your loved ones how much you care about them.

Memorial Tree

The city of High Point plants trees on behalf of its citizens in honor or memory of someone special. What’s a more thoughtful gift than a beautiful tree that you and your loved one can see grow for a very long time to come? Maybe you want to honor a parent who has stood stalwart and strong as an oak for throughout your life (see, another cliché that’s a truism). Or what about honoring the new baby that’s just came into this world with a tree that grows along with them throughout a lifetime? You can also designate a tree in memory of someone who has passed. You can choose both the kind of tree and its location. The City handles the rest. Besides being a great gift for a friend, it is also a gift to the community. For more information, visit here.

Cooking Classes at Cozy Cannoli

Do you have a friend that is a foodie? If so, giving them a cooking class at Cozy Cannoli is a perfect gift! Cozy Cannoli, a European-style bakery, offers pasta making classes led by their chef instructor. Each class has limited space to enhance the learning experience. These two-hour classes teach the proper method for pasta making from scratch, and, even better, you get to take a delicious dinner for four home! You are also able to request a private cooking class. How cool is that? For more information, check out the information listed on their website.

Southpaw Pen

Southpaw Pen is owned by Mary K. Crowder, a letterer and calligrapher. This company specializes in custom handwriting on nearly everything! For Christmas, Southpaw Pen offers  customized ornaments. This could be a great gift to show your friend that you care by adding your own custom touch to it. To learn more, check out Southpaw Pen’s instagram, @southpawpen.

Thoughtful Donations

Another thoughtful gift idea is to making a donation in a loved one’s name to a worthy cause. SHERR and the Humane Society are two great organizations fighting against animal cruelty. SHERR, also known as Safe Haven Equine Rescue & Retirement was founded in Archdale with goal of rescuing and improving the quality of horses’ lives who have previously been mistreated. Local volunteers including equine veterinarians and a small, dedicated staff mobilize on short notice to rescue these magnificent creatures, bringing them to SHERR’s farm where they receive ongoing treatment and ongoing care. While some of the horses are eventually re-homed, many live the rest of their lives in peaceful, happy contentment at the farm. The Humane Society, acts similarly on behalf of somewhat smaller, but equally deserving creatures, from dogs and cats to farm animals. From St. Jude’s to Boys & Girls Club of America, https://www.hpclubs.org, to Feeding America, there are countless organizations with amazing causes. Not only would you be getting your friend a meaningful gift, you would also be supporting an organization in making the world a better place.
