High Point Rockers Baseball

Unless you have been on a year long vacation or living under a rock, you probably know by now that High Point is building a ballpark! At long last, the baseball team’s name and mascot were unveiled at last nights Ball Park Block Party. Now officially called the Rockers – High Point has yet another new reason to celebrate.

It’s hard to believe just a few short months ago, we watched as city officials announced the name of the stadium: BB&T The Point and celebrated the Plaza sponsors Fred & Barbara Wilson. Just minutes later they broke ground on the construction for the ball field with hot dogs, popcorn, music and all things baseball.

Fast forward to late June and drone footage captured by Samet Construction proves just how much progress has been made. “Our team is very excited and energized about the progress being made on site, and we are focused on keeping this moment rolling to finish as strong as we started.” says Ryan Verstat, Project Manager for Samet Construction on the stadium.

And Executive Director Ray Gibbs of Forward High Point could not agree more, “We are very excited about the job that Samet Construction is doing for us with the stadium.  They are keeping the project on schedule and on budget as we are now about 9 months from the first game.”

He went on to share “This is a very exciting time in downtown High Point.   The stadium is well under construction and folks can start to get a feel for the size and scale. Then with the announcement last month about the development that will go up around the stadium, we are seeing a true transformation of downtown.”

Exciting times indeed! What Ray Gibbs is referring to is the presentation given by Tim Elliot just last month. Elliot Sidewalk Communities announced an $85 million dollar investment into the area surrounding the ballpark that boasts 375 construction jobs, 310 permanent jobs, 255 new residents, 120 hotel rooms, 30k feet of retail space, and 450 new parking spaces.
