High Point is building a ballpark!

Hot dogs, popcorn, and the phrase “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” are three things that are about to be the topic of conversation in High Point, NC!

Dr. Nido Qubein, President of High Point University, has always proclaimed over the years, “If you build it, they will come.”  High Point has seen that claim come to fruition through High Point University, and now it’s time for the town to take their turn.

Downtown High Point, NC is gaining a minor league baseball team and stadium scheduled for completion in May 2019!  The area surrounding the ballpark will also be seeing some pretty significant changes.  Think coffee houses, shops, a boutique hotel, a children’s museum and great restaurants – all within walking distance of the stadium (yes please!!)

The Barbour Spangle Design team walked over to the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the stadium this week (yes, we walked because our office is super close and yes, we are very excited about it!)  So excited in fact, we wanted to share our afternoon with the High Point community.

Dr. Nido Qubein spoke about his vision for the downtown area, the opportunities that lie ahead, and how collaboration & support of this town will lead to an incredible transformation.

Jay Wagner, City Mayor, spoke about the vision he has for our community and the vibrant city life our citizens will enjoy with the addition of these amenities.

What began as an idea in early 2016 has taken significant strides toward the vision.  This week we stood surrounded by heavy machinery, ready to dig into the ground and build for the next year- absolutely incredible!

Barbara and Fred Wilson are among several generous donors enabling this project to happen.  For this reason, the entrance of the stadium will be suitably named after them.  We also witnessed the unveiling of the stadium’s logo and name:

The BB&T Point.

A highlight of the event, before they officially shoved their ceremony shovels into the dirt was hearing Frank Bolton, CEO and Founder of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, speak.  He let us know that High Point’s team would be a part of this league among 7 other teams stretching from Connecticut to Texas. He also mentioned that this was the best turnout to a groundbreaking he had ever seen!

GO High Point!

We are so excited to see the progression of the stadium construction over the next twelve months along with the sense of community and happiness this project will surely bring to downtown.
