Local Love: Austin and Sarah Petty

One of the things that makes High Point so unique is the people who call the city their home. Each person has his or her own impact on the special city. We sat down with local family, Austin and Sarah Petty, to learn more about their love for their hometown and how they are bringing about positive change to High Point.

Austin and Sarah live in Willow Creek with their two young boys. Austin recently began working as a commercial Realtor with Ed Price at Price Realtors. Both Austin and Sarah serve on several non-profit organizations in High Point, which directly benefit the city. This inspiring couple is committed to improving the city they proudly call home.

Why High Point?

We both are native to High Point. Austin grew up on Dunloy Way off West Lexington and drives past his childhood home every day.  We decided to stay because of our amazing group of friends, our family, and memories.  It is  wildly  cliché but home really is where the heart is, and our hearts are deeply rooted in High Point.

The Neighborhood

We live in Willow Creek and absolutely love it.  Our sons, Stone and Rhett, have plenty of space to run and play while we have the luxury of still being within minutes of the grocery store and restaurants.  Our favorite thing about Willow Creek is being just a golf cart ride away from Sarah’s sister and brother-in-law (Katie and Paul Riggan) and their sons Keller, Stryker, and Holder.  We sit on the patio and let the cousins play… 5 boys under 8 years old is sometimes chaos but it is amazing watching them make memories.  We also have mallards that live on the pond in our backyard.  Stone has named the 3 that have called the pond home this year Donald, Daisy, and Mickey.  They come up to the house every night for a snack.

Local Tip

Our best tip is to experience the city as a family.  Waking up on Saturdays and  visiting  the High Point Farmers Market at the Library followed by playing at Triangle Park are a great way to start off the weekend.  Every kid in town loves to hop on the HPU train at High Point City Lake Park and a round of golf at Putt-Putt.

High Point  For the Win

High Point is a city of action and full of individuals who bring ideas to fruition.  We are a town of just over 110,000 and have sustained the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world, home to one of the top universities in the South, and is the site for the newest Atlantic League Professional Baseball team, the High Point Rockers!

What High Pointer do you most admire?

There is no way to pick just one. There are so many influential people in High Point who have played important roles in our lives and made huge impacts on the city.  Both of our grandparents were familiar faces in town and we still to this day hear stories about “Grandpa Huffman” at the paint store and “Daddy Bill” & “Bibbie” Ellington at their flower shop.  It reminds us to always strive to be genuine and kind so that one day our grandchildren will be proud of our influence as well.  We would be remiss to not mention Jordan Washburn who represents the spirit, philanthropy, and culture of a High Point native the very best.

How will you leave High Point better than you found it?

Service through non-profit organizations is part of who we both are: Austin  is currently on the Marketing Committee for Forward High Point and Sarah is an Executive Director for the March of Dimes. With the abundance of meaningful organizations in our community ANYONE can be a catalyst for progress and improvement, you just have to take that first step and volunteer!!!

High Point’s motto should be:

”Where being impressed is a promise”

Tell us a story or describe a scene that made you say to yourself  “That is so High Point”.

Undoubtedly the line wrapped around Biscuit Factory Every. Single. Saturday.
