As the warm North Carolina spring days slowly bring an end to the chilly winter months, you may find yourself ready to leave the comfort of your warm fuzzy blanket for an outdoor adventure! One of the best ways to make the most out of a beautiful day is finding a hiking trail and exploring all the natural beauty High Point has to offer. Our state is the home of hundreds of beautiful hiking trails, and fortunately some of those are right in our backyard! Whether you are looking to break a sweat or maybe just want the perfect background for your next instagram (don’t worry, we won’t judge!) – hiking is a great choice.

We’ve got you covered on all sorts of trails, so lace up your shoes, grab some water, a friend or a pet, and explore the trails below!

Going Green

The High Point Greenway is 3.25 mile paved trail that begins at Armstrong Park and ends at University Park. This trail winds through neighborhoods, forests, parks, and natural areas. The Greenway trail provides scenic lake views, which make the hike worth it! On this trail, you have the option of walking or biking the trail. You can even bring your pet along for the adventure, however a leash is required.

If you prefer a more entertaining trail that offers dining and shopping, then the uptowne stroll is the perfect one for you! While the uptowne stroll is only one mile, there are endless options to explore, so everyone can find something they enjoy. On this stroll, you can explore dining options, shopping spots, parks, public art, libraries and much more! There are also many different events on the Uptowne Stroll, so if you’re walk turns into a live music event or grabbing a drink, we think that is a-okay!

Lakeside Learning

The Piedmont Environmental Center not only offers 11 miles of foot trail, but it also offers place to learn! The Center provides programs to learn about natural world and its fragile life. These trails weave through 376 acres of hardwood and pine forest, as well as lakeside habitats, where you can witness the beauty of nature first hand.

While many are familiar with the beauty and impressive architecture found on High Point University’s campus, many are not aware that there is an arboretum and botanical garden on campus. The goal of arboretum and botanical garden was to beautify the campus and preserve the environmental surroundings. Luckily, their stunning campus is open to the public, so you are able to enjoy it! There are paths throughout the campus for you to explore – and it’s filled with endless amounts of instagrammable spots!

This trail provides a spot for the community to enjoy and preserve the natural environment of High Point. And it’s a great place to lookout for wildlife and animals for the whole family!
