It’s no secret that for students all over the world, the last 9 months haven’t exactly been normal. From online classes for students of all ages to mandatory quarantines for university students, to canceled proms, graduations, and celebrations of all kinds – 2020 was a tough year for many students.
While the new semester is well underway, we want to give a special shoutout to our college students at High Point University and Guilford Technical Community College who are working hard to make the most of hybrid classes and online programs. Although this year may not look the way you envisioned it, High Point still has a lot to offer when it comes to safely enjoying another college semester, from study spots to school supplies. Check out our semester essentials below!
Study at 83 Custom Coffee
We know social distancing has eliminated some of your cozy go-to study spots, but there are still plenty of places in High Point to grab a seat outside and enjoy a coffee, tea, or snack while you hit the books. Along with this list of patio spots, 83 Custom Coffee is a great place to caffeinate, soak up some Vitamin D, and even sit safely outside with friends while you work.
Boost your immune system at OrganicAF
Okay, even before you-know-what became part of our world, the months at the beginning of the second semester are always prime for colds, flus, and general crud going around. That’s why you need to stop in OrganicAF and pick up one of their ImmuneAF shots! Ginger, lemon, and grapefruit pack the Vitamin C punch you need to keep yourself healthy this semester.
Get moving at Yoga Mindset
With all the pressures of this year, it’s easy to let yourself grow stressed. But calming your mind through regular exercise is one of the best habits you can build! That’s why Yoga Mindset is a great place for you to create a regular rhythm of refocusing your mind and body. (HPD Tip: HPU students get the perk of unlimited yoga for only $45 a month when you show your student ID!)
Pick up some new desk supplies at Pen+Pillar
Nothing motivates us to work hard like new desk and office supplies. Something about writing in a fresh, beautiful notebook or calendar just makes us feel more productive! Shop Pen+Pillar’s entire desk collection to find the perfect set of notebooks, stationery, and calendars to make even your least favorite virtual class a little more fun.
Grab a post-workout smoothie at Nutrition on Main
Have you explored Nutrition on Main yet? If not, you’re missing out! This new High Point spot offers all kinds of yummy shakes and teas that honestly taste even better than they look (if you can believe it!). From protein shakes to refreshing teas, to energy shots, Nutrition on Main needs to be part of your week.
Soak up some sun at High Point’s parks
While the weather may be a little cold right now, the spring season is coming and when it does, High Point has some great trails and parks if you just need a change of scenery and some time in nature. Piedmont Environmental Center, Oak Hollow Park, Armstrong Park, Gibson Park, and Rich Fork Preserve are some of our go-to spots when it comes to getting some fresh air.
Whatever the semester holds, we hope to be a source of discovery and excitement about our city, as you find ways to make this school year one of the best!
